The Ohio State Buckeyes and South Illinois Salukis played an entertaining game for Field of the Shield patrons.
The Ohio State Buckeyes topped the South Illinois Salukis, 3-2, in 11 innings at Field of the Shield. The game was highlighted by the performance of Ohio State pitcher Joey Anderson. South Illinois drops to 5-3.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the 11th, with the game tied, Tony Villenas was at the plate when Ohio State scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Buckeyes to go in front, 3-2.
Villenas was in a reflective mood after the contest. He told the Ohio State Today, "Every game is it's own challenge. That's what keeps the competitive fire alive."
