Though he had a terrific game, Troy Buckman could not prevent his team, the California Golden Bears, from absorbing a loss. USC won the game, 10-6. Buckman was 2 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Adam Driscoll picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-0. Jaime Martinez was tagged with the loss. Wade Couchon got the save, the 1st for him this season.

Garry Moshier had a big 3-run home run for the Trojans in the bottom of the fourth inning. With USC trailing 4-3 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he sized up a fastball from 19-year old right-handed pitcher Bill Hodges and punished it. The result was his 4th home run of the season, which put the Trojans on top, 6-4.

"We'll keep playing hard and let the chips fall where they may," said USC manager Bryan Fulcher.

With the win, USC boosts its record to 5-1.
