Valentine Lifts Cardinals to 13-11 Win
The game was a shootout. To win it, the Stanford Cardinals had to outpace the Houston Cougars. The final score was 13-11, Cardinals. Neither team lacked hitting stars. For Stanford, center fielder Antoine Valentine was the foremost. He slugged 3 home runs. He drove in 7 runs and scored three times. Stanford pitcher Dan Day earned the win, hiking his record to 1-0. Joe Simmons suffered the loss. The loss drops Houston to 2-4.

Valentine contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Stanford in the top of the ninth. With his team trailing 11-10, Valentine took a fastball from Joe Simmons and stroked the home run to left-center. His 4th home run of the season allowed the Cardinals to leap in front, 12-11.

Houston manager Derrick Cable said he was disappointed with the loss. "Whenever you score that many runs, you expect to win the game."
