Surrey Field was the site of an exciting ballgame between the Victoria Cougars and Surrey Thunderbirds.

Led by Frank Hernandez, the Victoria Cougars defeated the Surrey Thunderbirds, 5-4. Hernandez, a native of Ensenada, Baja California, went 2 for 3 with a home run, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for the Cougars. Mauricio Garcia notched the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. His record now sits at 1-0. Joe Pierce got credit for the save for Victoria. It was his 2nd of the year.

Hernandez had a timely hit for Victoria in the top of the ninth. With Victoria trailing 4-2, he turned a 0-2 fastball into a 3-run home run. It was his 1st home run of the season, making it 5-4, Victoria.

"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Victoria manager Tony Varela.

The loss drops Surrey to 5-4.
