Tigers Get Close Win Over Cavaliers
|
The Auburn Tigers beat the Virginia Cavaliers, 5-2, at Ballpark of Redwood College. The win was largely due to the efforts of first baseman Tom Wilmore, who captured player of the game honors. He was 2-3 with a home run and 2 walks. Auburn reliever Jake Harms picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. David Riedesel was saddled with the loss. T.J. Bush earned his 3rd save in 3 tries.
Auburn used the bat of Matt Wilson to capture the win. The right fielder jacked a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Tigers ahead, 4-2. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a dandy.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Auburn manager Conrad Orton.
Auburn, at 3-1, has sizzled in the early going.
