Sooners Sneak Past Jayhawks, 6-5
|
Oklahoma starter Earl Abbott pitched effectively against the Kansas Jayhawks at Biglerville College Fields. The right-hander led his team to a 6-5 win. Oklahoma reliever Jerry Flynn picked up the win, bumping his record to 1-0. David Carter was collared with the loss. Losses have been rare for the Jayhawks, who are now 3-1.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Andy Meade came to bat in the bottom of the 18th. Facing Kansas pitcher Seth Mason, he hit a 2-0 curveball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Oklahoma on top, 6-5.
"To not win that game stings a little bit," said Kansas manager Alberto Silva.
