Demon Deacans Win at Florida, 8-5
|
The Wake Forest Demon Deacans beat the Florida Gators, 8-5, at Ballpark of Bismarck College. Wake Forest center fielder Rich Tooze led the way. He was 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. George Duvall, who went 5.1 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 2 runs on 4 hits, while walking 0 and striking out 10. His record now stands at 1-0. Wake Forest goes to 2-1.
Mike Norman had a big run-scoring triple for the Demon Deacans in the top of the third inning. With Wake Forest leading 3-1 and a runner on 1st, he got a curveball from fireballing right-hander Nick Meeks and swatted a triple to left. It was his 1st triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Demon Deacans ahead, 4-1.
"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Norman said.
