The 2062 season did not get off to quite the start the Houston Cougars had hoped, with an opening day loss to the Fresno State Bulldogs at Suns Ballpark. The final score was 19-8. First Baseman Jacob Neuenschwander was the top performer for Fresno State. Reliever Mike Cornwell picked up the win. His record improves to 1-0. Dennis Handy took the loss.

Fresno State used a clutch at-bat from Osvaldo Pimentel to capture the win. The third baseman hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Bulldogs ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.

"I was hoping to make good contact," said Neuenschwander. "I wasn't trying to knock the snot out of it."
