Tigers Score Late, Top Longhorns, 5-4
|
Crowds lined up early in front of South Paris College Grounds, eagerly awaiting the start of the 2044 USA NCAA DIVISION I season. On the mound was Dante White for the visiting Texas Longhorns and Josh Brown for the hometown LSU Tigers. In a spirited contest, the Tigers pulled out the win, defeating the Longhorns by the score of 5-4. Earning player of the game honors was Dante White. LSU reliever Corey Johannsen picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Blaine Reynolds shouldered the loss. Nate Heide closed the door for LSU, picking up his 1st save of the year.
Steve McCoy came through for LSU with a 3-run home run in the bottom of the eighth. The right fielder went 2 for 4 for the game, including 1 home run and 1 double. He scored 1 run and collected 3 runs batted in.
"It was a good effort all around," said McCoy.
