Saints Lose, 7-5, at Eliminators Ballpark
|
The Montreal Royales put the giddy home crowd in an even more jubilant mood after beating the Trois-Rivieres Saints in the season opener at Eliminators Ballpark. Catcher Cole Messier won player of the game plaudits for Montreal. He went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Montreal starter Bob Briggs was credited with the win after throwing 119 pitches over 8 innings. His record now stands at 1-0.
The Royales got a big at-bat from left fielder Barry Merrit. For the game, Merrit was 3 for 4 with a double and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. In the bottom of the second, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run single. His 3rd hit of the season gave Montreal a 2-1 lead.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Montreal manager Kamatari Inoue.
