The Santurce Crabbers went home winners at Indians Ballpark, thanks in large part to starter Melvin Mercado. Mercado silenced the Mayaguez Indians, enabling Santurce to grab the 11-0 win. The winning pitcher was Mercado, now 1-1. He tossed 6 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 4 and fanning 9. Santurce's record now stands at 14-17, placing them 4th in the Roberto Clemente Division.

Santurce left fielder Steve Rice laid a blow when he belted a 2-run home run in the top of the first. It was his 5th home run of the season. With it, the Crabbers took a 2-0 lead.

"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Rice told the Santurce Herald.
