Ortega goes 4-for-5 as Giants Squeeze Past Santurce
|
The Carolina Giants trumped the Santurce Crabbers, 7-6, at Ballpark of Santurce. Carolina third baseman Jordan Ortega was named player of the game for his performance. He went 4-5 with a home run and 2 doubles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Carolina reliever Hugo Serrano was credited with the win, to go to 1-0. Manny Moreno took the loss for Santurce. Trevor Biggs closed the door for Carolina, picking up his 8th save of the year.
The contest featured some late-game dramatics from Carolina left fielder Ellis Gardner. In the top of the eighth inning, with one out and runners on 1st and 2nd, Gardner hit a 3-run home run to help Carolina seize the win.
Ortega told the Carolina Bulletin: "I don't know which I enjoy more -- being a ballplayer or the perks that come with being a ballplayer."
The Giants now have a mark of 11-13.
