Frank Whitney did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Carolina Giants from losing, 7-6, to the Manati Athenians at Ballpark of Giants. Whitney was 2-4 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Vic Harrison got the win, improving to 1-2. He worked 7 innings, giving up 5 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 8 and walking 2. Manati is now 15-9, 3½ games up in the Roberto Clemente Division.
Doing his part for Manati was first baseman Frederik Snoek, who stroked a 3-run home run in the top of the second. For the game, Snoek was 1-2 with a home run and was hit by a pitch, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.
"This was a good win for us," said Snoek. "It's one more step toward our ultimate goal."
