Indians Fall to .500 After Loss to Giants
|
The Mayaguez Indians got a sterling performance from pitcher Hector Moncada, but the Giants still prevailed, 4-1. Moncada was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 7 innings allowing 3 runs. Billy Salazar got the win, improving to 2-0. He pitched 5 innings, giving up 5 hits and 1 run, while striking out 3 and walking 1. Trevor Biggs closed the door for Carolina, picking up his 7th save of the year.
Carolina shortstop Ivan Aguilera had a key at-bat for the Giants in the top of the fifth inning. Facing Mayaguez pitcher Hector Moncada, Aguilera hit a solo home run to make the score 2-1, Carolina. For the day, he was 2-3 with a home run and a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
Aguilera expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
The Indians, at 7-7, have lost 4 in a row.
