Victory Pushes Athenians Record to 7-6
|
The inspired effort of Santurce first baseman Enrique Zavala was not enough to prevent a 6-3 loss to the Manati Athenians. Zavala hit 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Sergio Lugo, the winner, improved to 2-1. He held Santurce to 1 earned run on 6 hits over 7 innings, while racking up 6 strikeouts. Alexis Otero recorded the save for Manati, his 3rd of the season.
Sean Bridge came through for Manati with a solo home run in the top of the seventh. The designated hitter went 2 for 4 for the game, including 1 home run and 1 double. He scored 2 runs and collected 1 RBI.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Bridge told the Manati Daily News.
The Athenians raised their record to 7-6.
