Cavalry Get Past Sydney for 4-3 Win
|
Sydney pitcher Luigi Lightfoot gave the Cavalry all they could handle, but in the end, Canberra left Blue Sox Ballpark with a 4-3 win. Lightfoot allowed no earned runs on 4 hits over 7.1 innings. Nigel Blythe picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 3-1. William Sweeny was tagged with the loss. Sydney's current losing streak is now 6 games.
Canberra needed the clutch hitting of Nelson Gilleland to notch the win. The left fielder hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Cavalry on top, 4-3. For the game, Gilleland had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"I just try to bring what I bring to this team," said Gilleland.
