Multi-HR Day for Xiong as Blue Sox Overpower Korea, 8-7
|
Sydney shortstop Hsueh-liang Xiong had a 3-RBI performance, which helped his team grab a 8-7 win over the Geelong Korea. Ethan Goodfellow got credit for the win, improving to 2-1. He allowed 1 run on 5 hits in 2.2 innings. William Sweeny earned the save, his 5th, for the Blue Sox.
Xiong contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Sydney in the bottom of the fifth. With his team trailing 7-6, Xiong took a cutter from Sean Amodeo and stroked the home run to right. His 5th home run of the season allowed the Blue Sox to leap in front, 8-7.
In postgame remarks, Xiong said: "To all who've been doubting my effort -- I hope they saw this game."
Sydney, at 12-15, occupies third place in the Australian Baseball Northeast Division.
