The Tuatara had to overcome a fine performance from Melborne pitcher Cheng-hao Xiu to grab a 3-2 win at Ballpark of Auckland. Xiu allowed 1 earned run over 6 innings. Carl Sweeny picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 2-0. Blaine Zucker was tagged with the loss. Bert Aldridge got the save, the 8th for him this season.

A crucial at-bat came with a runner on 1st and no one out in the bottom of the seventh inning. That's when center fielder Elliot Bansfield, who is tied for 5th in the AUB in runs scored with 25, hit a single. The Tuatara went on to win.

"We squandered some opportunities," said Melborne manager Roy Shurtz.

At 17-10, the Tuatara have a slim two-game lead in the Australian Baseball Northeast Division.
