Despite a fine performance by center fielder Lanzo Piontelli, the Bologna Unipol suffered a 6-4 loss to the Grosetto Fiat. Piontelli was 3-4 with a triple, 2 singles, and a walk. Eugenio Mediate got credit for the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 0.2 innings. The Fiat raised their record to 4-4.

Arrigo Prantera contributed to the Fiat cause with a productive at-bat in the top of the seventh inning. With a runner on 1st, he hit a 2-run home run, giving Grosetto the lead.

"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Grosetto manager Marciano Iuliano.
