Grizzlies Shut Out Boomers
The Schaumburg Boomers got a superb performance from pitcher Brian Gilbert, but the Gateway Grizzlies still won the game, 3-0. Gilbert was named the player of the game despite the loss. He threw 5 innings of shutout ball. Brian Hinson picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 2-2. Jude Hutchinson was tagged with the loss. The Grizzlies sit in last place in the Frontier League Midwestern Division with a record of 25-48.

A critical at-bat came in the bottom of the seventh inning when the Grizzlies sent 18-year-old third baseman Mike Slagle to the plate with the bases loaded. The youngster shook off the pressure and drew a walk, driving in 1 run, to put Gateway on top, 2-0.

"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Gateway skipper John Richmond.
