Jackels Knock Off Otters, 7-3
|
The New Jersey Jackels beat the Evansville Otters, 7-3, at Baltimore College Grounds. The Jackels got a fine performance from designated hitter Douglas Bayless, who captured player of the game honors. He was 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. The win was credited to Dwight Munroe in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Jeremy Giroux took the loss. The Jackels saw their win-loss record go to 34-40. At the same time, the Otters fell to 40-34.
Bayless came through with some timely hitting for New Jersey. With the score 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth and two down, Bayless hit a 0-1 fastball for a grand slam home run. His 6th home run of the season made it 7-2, New Jersey.
"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said New Jersey manager Ian Collins.
