Miners Turn Back Schaumburg, 8-6
|
Pierre-Yves Bernard made an impact in the 8-6 Sussex County win over Schaumburg. Bernard, who is tied for 4th in the FL in stolen bases with 11, was 2-3 with a double, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 3 times. Sussex County reliever Rick Ferguson picked up the win, upping his record to 2-1. David King was saddled with the loss. At 24-29, the Miners find themselves in 5th place in the Frontier League Frontier Division.
The Miners got a big at-bat from first baseman Jose Tapia. For the game, Tapia went 1-4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the third, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 3rd home run of the season gave Sussex County a 6-5 lead.
"It wasn't a pretty victory," said Tapia, "but we got it done."
