Cotten, So Cal Open R1 Strong with 8-3 Win
The So Cal Republic started the Round 1 in style today, downing the visiting Loachapoka Junebugs at House of the Republic by a score of 8-3 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Republic center fielder Adrian Cotten went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 2.

One of the clutch hits for So Cal came from one of their biggest talents. In the bottom of the seventh with one out, Geer Olsthoorn, who finished 4th in the RCL in wins above replacement with 6.8 last year, hit a run-scoring single to put the Republic up, 3-2. For the game, the shortstop went 2-5 with 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs.

Olsthoorn told a So Cal Chronicle reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at House of the Republic in Los Angeles.
