USFFL - Super Bowl IX - (2008)

Washington - 20 Pittsburgh - 13

Redskins end their Magic Carpet Ride season with a tough victory against the Steelers. It was Washington's defense which won this one like it did against the Vikings in the NFC Championship Game. The game was a tough defensive struggle and it was THREE big Ben Roethlisberger turnovers which decided this game. Otherwise, Pittsburgh's defense completely shut-down the injury riddled Washington offense. Already without Randle-El due to injury, Santana Moss was knocked coo-coo mid-way through Quarter One through the first half. Ever with Moss it was still very difficult to move against the Steel Curtain and Scott, who called a great game.

The first Big Ben turnover was a long pass interception which was returned 77 yards for a TD by DeAngelo Hall at the end of the 1st Quarter. Immediately afterwards on Pitt's next possession, Big Ben threw another interception on a look-in-pass. The Redskins ultimately settled for a FG to make the score 10-0. Pittsburgh then put together its best drive of the night on its next possession. The Steelers go 68 yards on five plays and get the TD on a 11 yard TD pass by Hines Ward. With 1:15 left in the half Suisham's 37 yard FG made it 13-7, but then Pitt's special teams came up with a big play. After being held to a three and out the Steelers punt with 16 seconds left but Antwaan Randle-El has the ball jarred loose and the Steelers recover at the Redskins 22 with 8 seconds left in the half. Reed trots out and kicks the 39 yard FG to make the score 13-10 Redskins at halftime.

The second half was just as defensive oriented as the first. Both defenses dominate as the Third Quarter is scoreless. Then Big Ben makes the third big turnover of the night. On 3rd and 4 on the Pitt 13 Big Ben fumbles the snap and London Fletcher recovers. Several plays later Clinton Portis runs around right end for the 3 yard TD run to put Washington up 20-10. The Steelers made a comeback attempt but the clock was not friendly. The Steelers did move the ball 68 yards on 9 plays with 2:06 left and kicked a 45 yard FG with 45 seconds left. The onside kick was recovered by Washington and Campbell took the knee to end the game.

If not for the three turnovers Washington would have only scored three points and the victory very well could have went to the med in black and gold!

It was a fun season coaching this team, and many thanks to David who chipped in when I was away and did a great job.

USFHL - Malkin scores 6 goals in a game!

Evgeni Malkin scores 6 goals for Vancouver in a game versus Parris Island in Vancouver.

Trailing 2-0 after the 1st period intermission, Vancouver's Evgeni Malkin took the game over.
He scored 4 times in the 2nd period and then scored twice in the 3rd period. Two of his six goals were on the PP. Vancouver cruised to an easy 10-2 victory.

USFBL - 2008 - 26 Inning Game!

Chris Sampson went 3 strong innings and Scott Hairston cracked a homer as the Gatineau Knicks defeated the Lewiston Sea Dogs in 26 innings 6 to 5 at Yankee Stadium.

The score was knotted at 3 after nine innings. Gatineau won the game in the 26th inning. Mark Teixeira drew a walk. Carl Crawford was next and he delivered a base-hit. After an out was recorded, Alberto Callaspo stepped up to the plate and he laced a one-base hit making Gatineau victorious to the delight of the the home town crowd. Lewiston had 22 hits in the game while Gatineau had 19, but Gatineau had the more timely hits.

The victory went to Brian Moehler(7-10) who went 3 innings, allowing 1 run. Chan Ho Park(3-5) was hit with the loss in relief. He allowed 12 hits and 4 walks in 13 and 1/3 innings.

USFBL - 2008 - 10th No-Hitter!

I played this game nearly 24 hours after Mark Buerhle tossed the 18th perfect game in MLB history. I thought to myself, "Self, it would be pretty crazy if virtual Buerhle could match real-life Buerhle..."

Pitching for the Mississippi Delta Blues, going against the Mudville Nine, he nearly matched himself, retiring the first 26 batters he faced.

He walked pinch-hitter Chone Figgins to spoil the perfecto, but got the 28th man, Jose Reyes to ground out to short to finish off the no-hitter. I couldn't believe how fast my heart was beating once the game got into the 7th inning...

USFFL - Super Bowl VIII - (2007)

In a Super Bowl that will go down in USFFL history the Patriots pulled out a nail biter on a last second 51 yard Gostkowski FG to deny the Seahawks and Dennis (Lombardi) Crowley of a three peat.

Recap below; Dennis, as would be expected, coached a great game and maximized his team's abilities after losing Shaun Alexander early in the game. The Seahawks were able to run the ball throughout the game as both Morris and Weaver played well and they also contained NE's running game despite constant double teaming of Moss and Welker. However, NE avoided the turnover and had zero penalties. Both teams had a kick return for a TD and TOP ended up relatively even. All said, quite a game - I am glad we can turn now to a more docile SOM baseball season.

Q1: Seattle takes opening drive 86 yards in 12 plays, converting multiple third downs and ending with a Leonard Weaver 7 yard run to go up 7-0. NE responds by going 60 yards in 4+ minutes to even things up on a Brady to Moss dump-off to tie things up, 7-7. Both teams then trade punts and the quarter ends, 7-7.

Q2: Seahawks drive deep into NE territory and settle for a short Josh Brown field goal to retake the lead, 10-7. Pats answer quickly with a short field goal of their own to knot game at 10. Seattle continues to mix up their offense and eat up over 5 minutes of clock; drive stalls out but Brown converts his second FG and Seattle moves ahead 13-10. Ensuing kickoff is 2 yards deep into endzone but Willie Andrews brings it to the house pushing Patriots back on top, 17-13 with under 2 minutes to go in half. Seattle again has double digit play drive against swiss cheese NE defense, ending in a 48 yarder from Brown to close the half, 17-16, New England.

Q3: Pats go quickly three and out to open third quarter. Morris then coughs up a fumble deep in Seahawk territory; the D stiffens but Gostkowski converts a 32 yarder and Pats lead 20-16. Seahawks respond like defending champs with a 5 play, 80 yard drive culminating with a Weaver 5 yard scamper. Patriots quickly forced to punt as Brady loses his aim and Nate Burleson brings it back 83 yards to put the Seattle squad up, 30-20. Pats suck it up and put together a 76 yard drive that ends with Brady hitting Maroney in the back of the end zone with a 12 yard pass, 30-27 Seahawks at the end of 3.

Q4: Seattle fumbles on the first play from scrimmage to start the 4th and NE takes advantage with a Brady to Brady 3 yard toss to go ahead, 34-30. Seattle burns over 6 minutes on 15 plays, driving to the NE 2, but has to settle for a short FG from Brown to cut the lead to one, 34-33. Patriots come back with an impressive 10 play drive, on a 3rd down red zone call Brady again finds Maroney for a TD strike and the XP pushes lead to 41-33 with 1:30 remaining and Seattle down to one timeout. On the first play of the drive Leonard Weaver fumbles after a short gain, he then picks up his fumble and goes 63 yards down to the NE two as the (premature) New Hampshire partying comes to an end. Engram gets wide open on the next play and Hasselback finds him to close the gap to 41-39. Mack Strong goes around the end for a two point conversion with 45 seconds left to even the square again, at 41 all. Following the kickoff Patriots start at their 36 and spread the field over 6 plays getting down to the 34 with one tick left. Gostkowski is only good on "2" from this range but NE elects to kick; the random FG rule again takes effect and the kick is good from 51 yards out as the clock expires, Patriots 44-41. After the AFC championship game and this game it is time for a cold beer.

USFBL - Barry Bonds hits 4 HRs in a game!

Barry Bonds smashed 4 homeruns and had 6 RBI as the Vancouver Vampires destroyed the lifeless Bell Heights Badgers by a score of 13 to 1 at RFK STADIUM.

Bonds had a great evening at the plate. He banged out a single in the 1st inning, lifted one out of the park for a two run home run in the 3rd inning, cleared the fences for a two-run home run in the 4th inning, delivered a solo blast in the 6th inning and ripped a solo home run (his 36th of the season)in the 7th inning. Bonds also ended up the game on the on deck circle, so he would have had a chance for 5. Vancouver out-hit Bell Heights for the game, 17 hits to 4.

The victory went to Dave Bush(14-12) who went 5 innings, allowing 1 run. Gavin Floyd(0-4) ended up with the loss. He was knocked around, surrendering 3runs in 2 innings.

Bonds was jubilant after the game 'Let me see a box-score' he joked, 'I want to see how that game looks on paper.'

USFBL - Tony Clark has a 4 HR game!

First baseman Tony Clark launched 4 HRs and had 6 RBI at Busch Stadium as the Topeka Tornado beat the Woodbridge Rattlers by the count of 10 to 2.

Clark propelled Topeka to victory. He blasted a two-run home run in the 1st inning, lifted one out of the park for a two run home run in the 5th inning, smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in the 7th inning and smashed a solo-shot out of the park (his 16th of the season) in the 9th inning.

Jeff Weaver(4-6) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 6 innings. LivanHernandez(1-4) was the loser. He served up 3 homeruns in his 4 and 2/3innings.

USFRBL - 1972 - 6th No-Hitter!

Chicago (AL) fans certainly got their money's worth at Comiskey Park. Wilbur
Wood(4-2) pitched a rare no-hitter as the Chicago (AL) Brewers toppled the
New York (AL) Twins 12 to 0.

Wood was just too much for New York (AL). He gave his hometown fans a game
they'll never forget! He walked 2 New York (AL) batters. The tension started
to build around the 6th inning. By the 9th inning the crowd was electrified.

Chicago (AL) banged out 19 hits on the night. Jim Kaat(1-1) absorbed the loss.

Wood was in a jubilant mood after the game. 'If I'd known I was going to throw a no hitter I would have gotten a haircut!' he said, much to the delight of the clubhouse gathering.

USFBL - Prince Fielder has a big game!

Designated hitter Prince Fielder launched 4 homeruns and had 7 RBI at Fenway
Park as the Woodbridge Rattlers beat the Toronto Toros 14 to 7.

Fielder had a great evening at the plate. He bombed a two-run dinger in the
3rd inning, cracked a solo homerun in the 5th inning, lost the ball over the
fence for three runs in the 6th inning, smashed a solo-shot out of the park
(his 7th of the season) in the 8th inning and lined a base-hit in the 9th
inning. Fielder also missed out on a 5th HR in his first AB as Andruw Jones
robbed him at the fence!

Woodbridge provided plenty of action in the 6th inning with 6 runs
on 7 hits. Offensively, Woodbridge was a juggernaut. They scored in 6
separate innings.

The victory went to Paul Maholm(2-1) who went 6 innings, allowing 3 runs.
Jeremy Bonderman(0-1) was charged with the loss. He got hit pretty hard,
allowing 12 hits and 3 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.

USPTFL - Super Bowl III - (2006)

TOKYO DRIFT LEADS THEM TO THE TITLE, 41-21 over the St. Louis Bandits

Opponent: Todd Hopkins - STL

This one played out pretty much to form with Peyton Manning continuing his playoff MVP form and the Yokozunas hanging up another big number thanks to facing an average/average defense. Manning threw for 348 yards on 26/40 passing and Tokyo racked up 34 first downs. For the Bandits, Fran Gor was a one man show racking up close to 200 yards on the ground and hitting a few of his big numbers including a 72-yard run, but much of that came after Tokyo had opened up a sizeable lead. The lead was only nine at the half, but three straight second half TD's put the game away for the repeat champions. Good game, but too much Tokyo firepower.

Congratulations to Dennis Crowley and the Tokyo Yokozunas for becoming back to back USPTFL Champions!

USFRBL - 1971 - 5th No-Hitter! in Game 7 of the World Series!

In Game 7 of the 1971 USFRBL World Series, the Los Angeles fans certainly got their money's worth at Riverfront Stadium but unfortunately were on the wrong side of the score. Vida Blue(3-0) pitched a rare no-hitter as the Oakland Senators toppled the Los Angeles Reds 2 to 0. Blue had his best stuff and was 'painting the black' with every pitch. A beautiful game to watch. He walked 4 Los Angeles batters. The tension was mounting with every inning after the 6th. Blue appeared oblivious himself to the mounting history until two were out in the 9th. Only then, did he allow himself one deep sigh and a slow trip around the mound. Los Angeles was retired without difficulty in the bottom of the 9th. Don Gullett(1-1) absorbed the loss in relief. He pitched 1 and 1/3 innings and surrendered 1 hit and no walks. 'Blue made us look bad' Larry Reeves said. 'I've seen a lot of good performances in my time and this one will be tucked away in my memory bank for a long time to come.

Dennis Crowley (SEATTLE) - 1st back to back Super Bowl Winner in USFFL History

Opponent: Tony DiNardo (INDIANAPOLIS)

Wow. That's all I can say after this one. A great back and forth battle that came down to the end. This writeup will fall short of the drama, but I will do my best. The Colts got the ball first. And they were able to drive to midfield. But facing a 4th and 1 at the 50-yard line. The Colts punted it away. The Seahawks went three and out and also lost starting guard Chris Gray in the process. The Colts second possesion was a nice march right down the field. Ten plays and 69 yards ending in a seven-yard TD strike to Reggie Wayne. Tony caught me with some short gains against my 3-3-5 defense (as I was doing my best to stop Peyton Manning. I also left a few flat zones open and Tony again made me pay.

I got the ball back and also put a good drive together, but the drive stalled at the 13-yard line and Josh Brown shanked a short field goal. Also the Colts lost starting DT Anthony McFarland for the rest of the first half at the end of the drive. Score after 1st Qtr: Colts 7 - Seahawks 0 Reggie Wayne dives for the end zone to put the Colts up 7-0.

The Colts took over after the missed field goal and looked ready to put the Seahawks in an early hole. But the Seahawks secondary stepped up and SS-Michael Boulware picked off Peyton Manning to stop the drive. This was despite the played being guessed wrong and only three men in the short zone. The pick came off a split roll of 3. (2-4, 12 INT, 5-11 INC). The Seahawks took over on the 45 but on second and five from the Seahawks 40-yard line Dwight Freeney came up with a big sack to make it 3rd and 15. The Seahawks punted on 4th and 12, netting -7 yards on the drive (+5 from a pen). Some more good defense and on 3rd and 5 the Colts got a failed dumpoff to halt their drive and force another punt. Two good offensive teams, but the defenses were ruling early and the score was still 7-0. The Seahawks took over on their own 10-yard line and finally put together a great drive. 13-plays and 90-yards. No yards from penalties just a nice combination of running and passing and three huge third down conversions. Shaun Alexander found the end-zone from 12-yards out to tie the game. Colts 7 - Seahawks 7. Shaun Alexander caught the Colts on a run blitz to the outside and took it up the middle for a 12-yard TD. That was the score at halftime: Colts 7 - Seahawks 7

The Seahawks got the ball to start the second half. But only were able to gain 12-yards on four plays and were forced to punt. The Colts got the ball back and put together their second excellent drive of the game. Nine-plays and 85-yards. The big plays on the drive were two Joseph Addai runs for 31-yards combined and a double-teamed bomb completed to Marvin Harrison for 28 yards. Dominic Rhodes punched it in from two-yards out and the Colts were back on top: Colts 14 - Seahawks 7. Joseph Addai's runs of 18 and 13 yards set the tone early in the third quarter.

The Seahawks took over knowing that they needed to answer. We worked the ball to the Colts 45 and were facing a 4th and 4. Knowing the Colts offense, I did not think a punt was a good idea with the possibility of going down two scores. So I decided to go for it. Tony went to a Short Yardage Defense and I threw to Deion Branch. Receiver card catch for 11-yards. The Seahawks continued to drive and had a first and goal at the three-yard line. Easy TD right? Wrong. Three straight runs by me, and three straight correct calls by Tony and all three landing on my cards not the porous Colts cards. So facing a 4th and 3 and knowing that I would need a FG at some point I went ahead and got the three points. Colts 14 - Seahawks 10. Deion Branch made a clutch catch on 4th and 4 to keep the drive alive. But a field goal is all it ultimately produced.

So the job is now to figure out a way to stop Peyton Manning. It didn't look good at first as the Seahawks. Peyton and Addai drove the Colts across midfield and had a first and 10 at the Seahawks 35. The Colts spread it out to a 3-wide formation and I doubled Stokely. But the pass was to Dallas Clark who was covered by 0-rated Michael Boulware. But Boulware came up with his second huge interception of the game stopping the Colts drive and giving the ball back to the Seahawks. Boulware's second pick of the game could not have come at a better time. Score after three quarters: Colts 14 - Seahawks 10

The Seahawks offense starts to click and they get the ball across midfield. But an incomplete pass on third-down at the Colts 29-yard line had the Hawks trotting out the field goal team. Josh Brown has already missed one and the Colts fans are raising a rucous. Sure enough Brown gets the yips and SHANKS it! But wait, I see a yellow hankie on the field! The Colts were offsides! First down Seahawks! The Seattle offense takes advantage of that huge break and on second and goal at the two, the Seahawks finally stop trying to pound it in and go up top. Matt Hasselbeck connects with D-Jack for a two-yard TD. Seahawks take their first lead of the game with 10 minutes left in the game. Seahawks 17 - Colts 14. Darrell Jackson finds the end-zone from two yards out to put the Seahawks up 17-14.

The Colts take over on their 20 and it is Peyton time. On second down Peyton is tired of going short and decides to go over the top of the Seahawks cover-two zone. He audibles at the line and Dallas Clark breaks free. Peyton winds it up and hits him in stride for a Long Gain of 40-yards. The Colts get 13-yards on a nice flat pass. On first and down at the 27, the Colts are flagged for illegal motion to make it first and 15 at the 32. The Seahawks sniff out an end run to Addai and correctly key. That makes it second and 17. A four yard gain on another run and a the Colts face a third and 13. The pass is incomplete and the Adam Vinatieri trots out to tie the game at 17. Colts - 17 - Seahawks 17. Peyton audibles for a bomb to Clark to tie up the Super Bowl at 17.

The Seahawks take over with 7:12 seconds left on their own 24 yard line. Ok, time to open it up I think. First play, I go short to Darrell Jackson hoping to hit his receiver card guessed wrong. Well, no dice, INTERCEPTED! It hit Hasselbeck's card guessed right on 11. (Pick on 2-10, inc 11 and 12). But AGAIN the refs bail me out with an offsides penalty on the Colts to nullify the pick. So back to work. Mixing runs and passes I get the ball to the Colts 35-yard line and am facing a 4th and 4. Josh Brown is good from 2-6, but it's too risky and I will likely give the Colts the ball in great field position if I miss. So I decide to go for it. I go end run to Alexander hoping to catch Tony in a pass call with so many yards to get. Nope, Tony isn't buying it, he calls run and keys on Alexander on a linebuck. Luckily it lands on the Colts card on a 7. short gain! Fifteen yards and a first down. Now it gets really interesting. There is two minutes exactly left and I am at the Colts 20. I want to use up as much clock as possible and find the end-zone if possible. An incomplete flat pass and two runs leave me facing a 4th and 1 at the Colts 11-yard line. There is 1:15 left. I debated kicking the field goal, but my kick coverage is awful and I just know Peyton would burn me taking over near midfield with two timeouts left. And the Colts defense on a linebuck has me making it (or a good chance to make it) on almost every roll but a 3. (OG challenge). So I would rather have the game decided right here. If I pickup the first I can run out the clock and kick a FG. So I decide to do a QB sneak (Matt makes it on his card 2-7, and Tony hasn't keyed on Hass on earlier 3rd and 4th and 1 calls). So here we go. The roll is a 7!!! First down (barely, an 8 and it's Tony's ball). Three runs later Josh Brown comes out and nails a 24-yard field goal as time expires! Whew!!! What a game!!! Probably foolish not to just kick the field goal. But I didn't want to give Peyton another chance. The big plays in the game were the two picks on Peyton, and the two flags on the Colts (one wiping out a shanked FG and giving me a first down. And the other wiping out a Hasselbeck pick deep in his own territory).

Tony called a great game, and I had to have all the breaks to bring home the trophy again. Great game Tony!!!!

USFRBL - 1971 - 4th No-Hitter!

Bill had a 106 pitch day that saw him only give up 3 walks in the 3-0 shutout victory over the visiting San Francisco Phillies.

USPTFL - SUPER BOWL II - (2005)

TOKYO Defeats CAVE CREEK 31-16 to win USPTFL - SUPER BOWL II - 2005 SEASON

This game was a tight 14-13 affair at halftime with both sides putting together some impressive drives that ended in scores. Mark actually more yardage, first downs, etc in the first half but of his four good drives, one stalled due to pens and two of the other three ended in FG's with only one getting a TD. The Yokozunas had three good drives, but decided to gamble and go for a TD with :01 remaining in the half instead of taking the easy FG. But the second half was a different story as the boys from Tokyo clamped down on defense and the offense kept humming. DeShaun Foster had the game of his life rushing for 213 yards yards including hitting snakes eyes once on his cards for 70 and twice more on the d-cards for another 50 or so. Lucky dice were the theme for me in the Super Bowl. Great game and a great season to Mark and his Longshots. In case you weren't paying attention, he won two playoff games in overtime and the other one with a TD with :45 to go. Truly impressive and he has a lot to be proud of!

USFDBL - Near No-Hitter in this Classic Extra Inning game!

Unbelievable baseball game in the USFDBL!

As reported by SOMBB's HAL:

John Patterson carried a no-hitter into the 11th inning as the Toronto
SkyChiefs defeated the Antioch Coal Miners in 11 innings 2 to 1 at PNC
Park.

The score was a scoreless tie after nine. Toronto won the hard fought contest
in the 11th inning. Brad Hawpe led off the inning for Toronto when he drew a
walk. Felipe Lopez got his chance to keep things going, but he went down on
strikes. Mike Lamb then drew a walk. Patterson came up and he laid down a
sacrifice bunt. Tadahito Iguchi stepped into the box and laced a base-hit
scoring two teammates. Iguchi took second on the throw. Toronto managed
only 3 on the night.
Patterson(14-10) allowed 1 run in 10 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. The right-handed Patterson lost his no-hit bid when Johnny Estrada
doubled with two outs in the 11th inning. Aaron Heilman gained credit for
his 34th save. Tim Worrell(2-4) was charged with the loss in relief.
Patterson was asked about his big strikeout performance, 'Well, it's a little
odd when you rack up these numbers on the road - instead of cheers and a
running tally in the stands, everything gets real still and quiet. Just
strange - but it's nice to be able to take the crowd out of the game.'

USFFL Super Bowl VI featured a classic match-up between two tough teams deserving of being in the big game. Head Coach Dennis Crowley led his Seattle Seahawks to the championship victory 21-14 over the Cincinnati Bengals. Seattle finished a perfect season in a perfect way going 19-0 and became the first ever USFFL champion to go undefeated.

Head Coach Jeff Wendlandt took over the helm of the AFC Champion Cincinnati Bengals at the end of the Regular Season. He guided them through playoff victories versus Pittsburgh and Kansas City.

Seattle controlled the clock for 35 min, 19 sec and thus managed to keep the high powered Bengals attack off the field. Both teams exchanged TDs in the 1st and 2nd quarters and went into the half tied at 14-14. However; the Seahawks would be the only team to score in the 2nd half, on a Bobby Engram 14 yd TD pass from Matt Hasselbeck @8:06 in the 3rd Qtr. Seattle ground game was too much for the Bengals. Seattle gained 259 yds on the ground while the Bengals could only muster 44 yds.

The MVP was given to Shaun Alexander for his 32 carries and 197 yds including a 7 yd rushing TD in the opening qtr.

USFFL - SUPER BOWL V - (2004)

USFFL Super Bowl V featured an unlikely match-up between teams with different stories.

Representing the AFC, the San Diego Chargers (15-1) were undefeated at 15-0 until they lost in the final weekend of the season to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Representing the NFC, the Detroit Lions. Yes the Detroit Lions that is not a typo error. An excellent coaching job by Vince Trivelpiece led the surprising Lions to the big game.

The game was close right until the 4th qtr when SD scored two TDs to pull away and win the USFFL Year V Super Bowl, 24-10. This Super Bowl gave Head Coach Barry Cohen his 2nd Super Bowl Championship in 5 years! His previous Super Bowl came while coaching the Tampa Buccaneers.

Detroit was held to 199 total yards for the game and only 11 first downs. Detroit Lions only TD came on Bly INT return which tied the score at 10-10 after 3 quarters. Meanwhile San Diego gained 470 total yards and controlled the clock for nearly 33 minutes. LT had 2 TDs (1 rushing and 1 receiving). Gates had the other TD for the Chargers.

Tom Seaver(6-2) thrilled the fans at Shea Stadium as he crafted a no-hit
masterpiece against the Oakland Royals.  The New York Expos won by a final
score of 7 to 0.
 
Seaver had overwhelming stuff tonight.  He simply never gave the Oakland
batters a decent pitch to drive.  He walked 3 Oakland batters.  What an
evening for the fans.  They were on the edge of their seats from the 7th
inning on.  With every out, the electricity in the air mounted.  Seaver mowed
down 11 Oakland batters.  New York banged out 9 on the night.  
 
Dick Drago(3-2) was the loser.  'I gave it everything I had. It's probably the
greatest day of my life,' Seaver said. 'I was out there focusing on my
catcher's glove, that's all. I just concentrated on pitching my game.'

USPTFL - SUPER BOWL I - (2004)

The Centerville Demons defeated the Philadelphia Phantoms 34-15 to capture the USPTFL Championship. Brett Favre had the one of the all time great championship game performances completing 24 of 26 passes for 269 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was backed by a solid performance from Corey Dillon who rushed 33 times for 115 yards and a score.

The rolling was all one sided in this one as you can all imagine by looking at Favre’s stats. Favre was 11/11 at the half, and was 18/18 before throwing his first incompletion. Examples of my luck – Roger double teamed the correct receiver on a bomb, I roll my card 5 for +29 – the only number I could have completed on either card. Next play, bomb roll my card 9 for a LG TD. Another bomb later, defender X or long gain against a 5, I roll 6. As you know, Roger’s pass rush is awesome. There were at least 10 plays, no sack, dumpoff under GR, all completed. And then to boot, Roger could not roll much guessed wrong on Thomas Jones’ card until late. I’m sure a very frustrating game for him but he was a gentleman to the end – a real class act. Oh yeah, and he got stiffed with 13 penalties too. He coached a great game – the Strat Gods were on my side tonight without a doubt.

Well guys, it was a fun season. I needed to win this year because Favre is going to throw 40 interceptions next year and Dillon will average 3.0 YPC and only play in 8 games. Enjoy the offseason and see you all in the fall.

Aaron Small(4-4) was on top of his game in New York (AL) as he tossed a beauty
of a no-hitter against the New York (AL) Yankees.  The Seattle Mariners won
by a score of 6 to 0.
 
Small was obviously at the top of his game as he set the New York (AL) batters
down like so many dominoes.  He walked 3 New York (AL) batters.  The Seattle
players and coaches started to leave Small alone with his thoughts after the
game reached the 7th inning.  By the time the 9th inning rolled around, you
could hear a pin drop every time he went to his wind-up - and an explosion
after every out.  Seattle had a total of 13 hits for the game.  
 
Byung-Hyun Kim(1-6) was tagged with the loss.  He was knocked around by
Seattle, allowing 11 hits and 3 walks in 5 innings.  After the game, Small
was heard to say, 'This is something I have dreamt about since I was a little
boy - to have it come true is just amazing!'
