Pioneers Solve Quebec in Extra Innings
|
The Vancouver Pioneers used a top-flight performance from Mike Ortner, who is tied for 3rd in the TML in innings pitched with 71.0, to beat the Quebec Armada, 2-1, in 10 innings. Vancouver reliever Noel Belcher snagged the win, upping his record to 2-3. Danny Phillips shouldered the loss. Picking up his 16th save was 29-year old right-handed pitcher Willie Arredondo.
Ross Dobesh came through with a big-time hit for Vancouver. The center fielder smacked a solo home run in the top of the tenth inning to give his team the lead, 2-1. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"We didn't go down without a fight," said Quebec manager Ramu Pavi.
The win gives Vancouver a season record of 33-19.
