Lions Lose, 10-9, at Breakers Ballpark

The Lerna Lions got a superb performance from third baseman Eric Lane, but the Topeka West Chargers still won the game, 10-9. Lane was named the player of the game despite the loss. He hit 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Topeka West reliever Brayden Conroy picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Alan Kruger was saddled with the loss. Kevin Gurski earned the save, his 8th.

Had Mitsuyoshi Sakamoto not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Sakamoto hit a 2-run double. That made the score 8-6, in favor of the Chargers.

"Ugly win or not, we'll take it," said Sakamoto.

At 17-20, the Chargers find themselves in 4th place in the Pete Rose League Roger Clemens Division.
