| Islanders Score Late, Stun Panthers, 5-3 | Grand Island Islanders starter Dan Stamper was in a groove as he led his team to a win over the Pitman High Panthers, 5-3. Grand Island reliever Jeremy Yablonski was credited with the win, to go to 2-1. Juan Marichal Jr. took the loss for Pitman High. Grand Island has now won 7 straight, while the Panthers have lost 3 in a row.
Had Chris Coleman not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Coleman hit a 2-run single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Islanders.
"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," Coleman told the Grand Island Times. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
