| Carp Score Late to Upend Swallows, 4-2 | The Hiroshima Toyo Carp knocked off the Tokyo Yakult Swallows, 4-2, at Rebels Ballpark. Pete Martin, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Hiroshima Toyo won. The third baseman went 2-4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. The last-place Swallows have lost 4 consecutive games.
Martin had a game-changing double in the top of the eighth. On a 1-0 cutter from Rob Brumbaugh, he banged a 2-run double to right-center, giving the Carp a 4-2 lead. It was the 6th double of the year for Martin.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Hiroshima Toyo manager Noriaki Kichida.
