| Great Day for Maddox in Swallows Win | The Tokyo Yakult Swallows beat the Yokohama Bay Stars, 12-9, at Cuckoos Stadium. The win was largely due to the efforts of shortstop Travis Maddox, who captured player of the game honors. He went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 5. Tokyo Yakult reliever Rob Brumbaugh got the win, raising his record to 2-0. Paul Higgins was tagged with the loss. At 11-19, the Swallows find themselves in last place in the Central Division.
Hidemichi Fukuda, who is tied for 7th in the CL in runs scored with 21, aided the Tokyo Yakult cause with a run-scoring walk in the top of the seventh. For the game, the first baseman went 2-4 with 2 singles and 2 walks.
"Being able to play a game for a living is one thing. Being able to play it well and contribute to a win is even better," Fukuda told the Tokyo Yakult News.
