| Babcock, Swallows Too Much for Bay Stars | The Tokyo Yakult Swallows relied on the hitting of center fielder Russ Babcock to stop the Yokohama Bay Stars, 8-2. For the game, Babcock went 2-2 with a double and 3 walks, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2. Even with the win, the Swallows have a dismal 10-19 record.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the fourth, with the game tied, Zachary Scott was at the plate when Tokyo Yakult scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Swallows to go in front, 2-1.
"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Swallows manager Bob Costas. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
