Hanshin third baseman Billy Skaling was named player of the game for his superb performance. He went 2-4 with 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Masahiro Tanaka, the winner, improved to 1-1. He held Yokohama to 3 earned runs on 5 hits over 5 innings, while racking up 7 strikeouts. With the win, the Tigers have a record of 16-11.
Skaling came through with some timely hitting for Hanshin. With the score 0-0 in the bottom of the first and no one down, Skaling hit a 1-2 fastball for a 2-run home run. His 7th home run of the season made it 2-0, Hanshin.
"We're feeling good in this clubhouse right now after that one," Skaling told the Hanshin Herald.
