| Giants Edge Tigers, 5-4 | The Hanshin Tigers got a superb performance from pitcher Masahiro Tanaka. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Yomiuri. The Giants won the game, 5-4. In spite of the loss, Tanaka was named the player of the game. He threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball. Mikio Sawamura earned the win for Yomiuri. He lasted 5.1 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 5 hits, while striking out 4. With the win, he raised his record to 1-1. Seisaku Moriwaki closed it out for his 1st save.
Tong-sik Hoang had a big 2-run single for the Giants in the top of the seventh inning. With Yomiuri leading 3-2 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a fastball from Arihito Nakamura and stroked the single to center. It was his 12th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Giants ahead, 5-2.
"It all depends on which version of our team shows up," said Hoang. "When we put it all together, I think we're a great team."
Yomiuri is now 8-13, while Hanshin is 12-9.
