| Martin Slugs Carp to 6-1 Win | The Hiroshima Toyo Carp defeated the Yokohama Bay Stars, 6-1, at Frogs Ballpark. Hiroshima Toyo third baseman Pete Martin was named player of the game for his superb performance. He was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice. Mitsuhiro Hayashida got the win, improving to 1-0. He held the Bay Stars to 1 earned run on 2 hits over 7 innings, while striking out 6 and walking 1. Hiroshima Toyo is off to a hot start at 4-1.
Hiroshima Toyo grabbed the momentum in the bottom of the fifth, when Martin, who is rated as the 58th best prospect by BNN, hit a grand slam home run. His 3rd home run of the season put the Carp out in front, 4-0.
"We took advantage of our opportunities," Martin told the Hiroshima Toyo News. "It's as simple as that."
