| Golden Eagles Prevail, 6-5, Over Saitama Seibu | The Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles beat the Saitama Seibu Lions, 6-5, at Sailboats Ballpark. The win was largely due to the efforts of first baseman Kunimichi Nakai, who captured player of the game honors. He went 2 for 4 with a home run, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Tohoku Rakuten is now 22-28.
The Golden Eagles got a big at-bat from center fielder Chiaki Tani. For the game, Tani went 2-4 with 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the seventh, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run single. His 35th hit of the season gave Tohoku Rakuten a 6-5 lead.
"We took advantage of our opportunities," Tani told the Tohoku Rakuten News. "It's as simple as that."
