| 4-2 Marines Win over Hawks Evens Season Record | The Chiba Lotte Marines stymied the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks, 4-2, at Ballpark of Nasu College. Shintaro Otsuji, who had a good day at the plate, was named player of the game. He went 4-5 with 4 singles, while scoring 3 runs for Chiba Lotte. Sean Harris, the winner, improved to 3-4. He held the Hawks to 2 earned runs on 6 hits over 7 innings, while striking out 7 and walking 1. Adam Petti, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 4th save.
Had Yin-xiang Xuan not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Xuan hit a run-scoring double. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Marines.
"I don't feel you win baseball games by working harder than the other team or 'wanting it more,'" Otsuji told the Chiba Lotte Citizen. "You win just by scoring more runs."
Chiba Lotte now has a 3-game win streak.
