| Hawks Score Late, Top Golden Eagles, 4-2 | The Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks beat the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles, 4-2, at Sailboats Ballpark. The win was largely due to the efforts of shortstop Akira Otake, who captured player of the game honors. He slugged 2 home runs. Fukuoka SoftBank reliever Max Kubota got the win, raising his record to 2-1. John Healy was tagged with the loss. The save was Tsuyoshi Sato's, his 2nd.
Otake had a game-changing home run in the top of the eighth. On a 2-0 fastball from John Healy, he banged a solo home run to right-center, giving the Hawks a 2-1 lead. It was the 7th home run of the year for Otake.
"We're obviously playing with a lot of confidence," said Fukuoka SoftBank manager Allen Cummings.
At 19-11, the Hawks have a slim two-game lead in the Pacific Division.
