| Hawks Drop Lions with Late Score | It was a good time at Ballpark of Aomori College, where fans came to watch the Saitama Seibu Lions and Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks get after it.
Saitama Seibu left fielder Chikashi Matsubara pounded Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks pitchers at Ballpark of Aomori College, but it was not enough to keep the Lions from falling, 8-6. Matsubara belted 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. The winner was Fukuoka SoftBank reliever Masayuki Takeda, now 2-1. The loser was Jeremy Schrimp. Tsuyoshi Sato saved it for Fukuoka SoftBank.
Had Eiichi Kawasaki not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Kawasaki hit a grand slam. That made the score 8-6, in favor of the Hawks.
"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager Allen Cummings said.
