| Hornets Clip Black Knights in Tight Contest | The Eureka Hornets scored a 8-7 win versus the Brooklyn Black Knights at The Nest. Eureka left fielder Juan González nabbed top player honors in the tight contest. Eureka reliever Harlan Rudy was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Virgil Rivard. Ezra Bryan was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 2 of 2 save opportunities.
Had Juan Mendez not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Mendez hit a 2-run double. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Hornets.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," González told the Eureka Daily News.
The Hornets bumped their record to 43-36 with this latest triumph.
