| Lions Prevail, 7-5, Over Tohoku Rakuten | The Lions faced a stiff challenge from Tohoku Rakuten pitcher Sang-Seung Lee, but persevered to claim a win at Field of the Chariots. The final score was 7-5. Lee went 6 innings and allowed 1 earned run. Saitama Seibu reliever Randy Mawhirter picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Yozaburo Yagi shouldered the loss. The win leaves Saitama Seibu with a record of 3-3.
Had Dakota Medwid not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Medwid hit a 2-run single. That made the score 5-3, in favor of the Lions.
"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Saitama Seibu manager Jim Hill.
