| Lions Edge Buffaloes, 3-2 | Crowds lined up early in front of Field of the Chariots, eagerly awaiting the start of the 2038 NIPPON BASEBALL LEAGUE season. On the mound was Hachemon Hitomi for the visiting ORIX Buffaloes and Andy Ludewig for the hometown Saitama Seibu Lions. In a spirited contest, the Lions pulled out the win, defeating the Buffaloes by the score of 3-2. Earning player of the game honors was Andy Ludewig. The winning pitcher was Ludewig, now 1-0. He tossed 5.1 innings of 2-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 9.
Early in the game, right fielder Masanori Sugai had a 2-run double for Saitama Seibu. It was his 1st double of the season and put the Lions on top, 2-0.
Sugai told a Saitama Seibu Daily News reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.
