Stieb Jr. hits 2 home runs to Pull Islanders to .500

The Grand Island Islanders bested the Riverside Poly, 7-6, at Ballpark of Morelia HS. Dave Stieb Jr. was named player of the game. He went 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 5. Getting the save was Matt Johnson, his 1st. The loss drops Riverside to 0-4.

When the Islanders needed a boost, it was the light-hitting Stieb Jr. who delivered. Facing Riverside pitcher Ryan Stevenson the bottom of the second with runners on 1st and 2nd, Stieb Jr. hit his 2nd home run of the year. It made the score 5-0.

"You can't take yourself too seriously," Stieb Jr. told the Grand Island Times. "But at the end of the day, we do play to win ballgames."
