| Luffman Leads Charge, Derby Blasts Lancers | The Derby Panthers opened their season in style with a blowout win over the Canby Lancers at Managua HS Grounds. The final score was 15-3. Derby catcher Ryan Luffman led the attack. He went 3-5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 7. Derby starter Dave Segerstrom was credited with the win after throwing 111 pitches over 7 innings. His record now stands at 1-0.
Luffman contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for Derby in the bottom of the first. With his team trailing 2-0, Luffman took a fastball from Mike Walker and stroked the home run to right. His 1st home run of the season allowed the Panthers to leap in front, 4-2.
"It's nice to come out on top today," said Luffman.
