Late Rally by Stars Secures Win

The Niagara Stars eked out a 6-5 win versus the Kelowna Heat at Brantford College Grounds. Nobody did more than center fielder Darrell Rowe, who captured player of the game honors. Mike Ekdar got credit for the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. Earning his 1st save of the year was Bret Hollett.

Had Tom Pinsent not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Pinsent hit a run-scoring double. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Stars.

"We had the game right there for the taking," said Kelowna manager Jorge Martínez. "But we decided not to take it."

The Stars go to 12-17, putting them last in the Lester B. Person League East Division.
