| Monarchs Scratch and Claw to 4-3 Win | Fans brought energy and enthusiasm to the Montreal Royales home opener. Bill Cross started for the home team against Leif Hooper for the London Monarchs. The Royales were unable to reward the home crowd with a win. The final score was 4-3, London. Leif Hooper was named player of the game. London reliever Norris Burton picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Eric Wagner shouldered the loss.
Bill Wolochow had a nice at-bat for the Monarchs with no one out in the top of the 12th. With the bases empty, the left fielder drew a walk, which would prove important in the London win.
"I tried to mix it up, keep them off balance," said Hooper.
