Earthquakes Best Armada in Pitching Duel

The Quebec Armada wasted an inspired, 8-inning effort from starter Luis Mendez, falling 2-1 to the San Francisco Earthquakes at Golden Gate Park. Steve Cherry picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 2-0. Luis Mendez was tagged with the loss. The Armada, now 30-44, have lost 4 in a row.

The Earthquakes got a big at-bat from first baseman Juan López. For the game, López was 2-3 with a double. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 16th hit of the season gave San Francisco a 2-1 lead.

"We'll grab a cold one tonight and go after another win tomorrow," López said.
