| Bulldogs Turn Back Long Beach State, 7-5 | Long Beach State right fielder Greg Jordan had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Jordan was 4 for 4 with a home run, 3 singles, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once, even as Mississippi State beat the 49'ers, 7-5. Jordan was named the player of the game despite the loss. Mississippi State reliever Rich Elliott picked up the win, upping his record to 2-1. Bob Lober shouldered the loss. John Cornell recorded the save for Mississippi State, his 1st of the season.
Cody Neumann, who is tied for 8th in the RDL in stolen bases with 10, aided the Mississippi State cause with a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth. For the game, the center fielder was 2-3 with 2 singles and 2 walks, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Neumann told reporters after the game.
The Bulldogs bumped their record to 27-18 with this latest triumph.
