| Owls Jolt Ragin Cajuns with Late Rally | Jon Thompson was instrumental in his team's 6-5 triumph over the Louisiana-Layfayette Ragin Cajuns. The center fielder was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3 for the Rice Owls. Rice reliever Steve Rash picked up the win, upping his record to 3-1. Kevin Gillen shouldered the loss. Louisiana-Layfayette has now lost 4 straight.
Bob Slade went 1-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for Rice. The 21-year old second baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With two out and the bases loaded, he broke a 5-5 tie with a run-scoring walk off Kevin Gillen. It was his 26th walk of the season.
