Owls Come Up Short at Ole Miss

In a high-scoring contest between Ole Miss and Rice, left fielder Rich Pile was a difference-maker. Pile earned player of the game honors in the 9-8 Ole Miss win. He went 2 for 2 with a home run, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 3 times. The 20th-place Rebels improved to 18-24.

In the bottom of the 6th, shortstop Josh Caldwell gave Ole Miss the lead when he hit a 2-run single. The Rebels had been trailing 6-5, but the two-out single off Rice pitcher Dustin Mongillo changed that -- and Ole Miss went on to win.
