| Beattie Goes Wild, But Cyclones Win | Auburn center fielder Nate Beattie had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Beattie hit 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice, even as Iowa State beat the Tigers, 9-8. Beattie was named the player of the game despite the loss. The winner was Jeremy Knight in relief. His record improves to 2-1. Bobby Crowell took the loss. Chris Schmidt finished the game for Iowa State and earned his 8th save.
Had Philip Cook not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Cook hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 8-7, in favor of the Cyclones.
"It was a nice win for our side today," said Cyclones manager Theodore Foster. "Not perfect, but we'll take it."
Auburn, at 21-21, has lost 4 straight.
