| Feldmann Goes Wild, But Commodores Win | The Florida Gators got a sterling performance from designated hitter Fred Feldmann, but the Commodores still prevailed, 8-7. Feldmann was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He hit 2 home runs. He scored 3 times and drove in 3. Vanderbilt goes to 18-22, Florida to 23-17.
Had Joe Chauncey not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Chauncey hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 7-6, in favor of the Commodores.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Chauncey said after the game.
